I Mean You

“I Mean You” is one of the jauntier of Monk’s tunes. Monk co-wrote it with saxophone titan Coleman Hawkins, and they first recorded it together in 1946. Monk performed and recorded the tune frequently through his whole career.

This HarmoniMonk jaunt has boogie-woogie pianist Albert Ammons’ left hand plucking a fake oud, accompanied by cello stabs on the backbeats and a few crazed squeals midway through. The harmonica flaunts a cheerful and confident manner in the downcast face of uncertain times.
